PASE has been driven from the outset by a systematic examination of all of the available written sources bearing on Anglo-Saxon
England. The sources range from the major works which generated many hundreds of references apiece (e.g. Bede’s Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum, and the various manuscripts of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle) to shorter texts, such as letters, which in some cases generated no more than the names of the author and the recipient.
A list of all of the sources which have contributed entries for the database can be seen by searching the database by ‘Sources’ from the Database Homepage .
